MICROLAX BABY RECTAL SOLUTION 4 UNIDOSES OF 3ML

This medicine is recommended as a symptomatic treatment of certain forms of constipation and as a preparation for certain examinations (rectoscopy)

QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION

For a single-dose container of 3.87 g:

Sorbitol 70% crystallizable: 2.6790 g
Sodium citrate: 0.2700 g
Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate 70%: 0.0387 g
Excipients: Sorbic acid, glycerol, purified water

DOSAGE
Treatment of constipation: 1 single-dose container per day.
Preparation for endoscopic examinations of the rectum: 1 single-dose container administered 5 to 20 minutes before the chosen time of bowel movement.

METHOD AND ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION
This medicine is administered rectally.

Method of use:

1. After breaking off the tip, gently press the tube to reveal a drop
2. to release a drop.
3. Lubricate the cannula with this drop.
4. Insert the cannula into the rectum.
5. Press out the entire contents of the tube.
6. Remove the cannula without releasing the pressure on the tube.

It is not necessary to lie down to administer the product or to wait for it to take effect. This medication usually takes effect in 5 to 20 minutes; a longer delay (more than 1 hour) may occur in bedridden patients.

DURATION OF TREATMENT
Do not use for prolonged periods without medical advice.

Occasional constipation
May be related to a recent change in lifestyle (travel). The drug may be helpful in
short treatment. Any recent constipation unexplained by a change in lifestyle, any constipation
accompanied by pain, fever, swelling of the abdomen requires the advice of a doctor.

Chronic constipation (long-term constipation)
It can be linked to two causes:

• either a disease of the intestine which requires medical attention,
• or an imbalance in bowel function due to eating habits and lifestyle.

The treatment includes, among other things:

• an increase in the food intake of vegetable products (green vegetables, raw vegetables, wholemeal bread, fruit...) ;
• an increase in the consumption of water and fruit juice;
• an increase in physical activity (sport, walking....);
• re-education of the defecation reflex;
• sometimes adding bran to the diet.

It is useful to seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Use this medicine with caution in case of :

• haemorrhoidal flare-ups,
• anal fissure,
• ulcerative colitis.
