WHAT IS THE DOSAGE OF FERTIFOL 400 MICROGRAMS FOLIC ACID?
The usual recommended dose is 1 tablet per day to be taken from the first month after conception and without interruption until the third month. In case of folate or folic acid deficiency, it is recommended to double the daily dose. The tablets should be taken before meals.
It should be noted that this dosage is not suitable for women who have already had a child with neural tube defects.

Precautions for use of Fertifol 400 micrograms folic acid
Patients who already gave birth to a child or aborted a fetus with neural tube defect should consult a doctor before taking Fertifol tablets. This is because the doses required may be higher. This also applies to women who are taking anti-epileptic drugs (carbamazepine or valproic acid) or who have a family history of neural tube closure defects. The same is true for women who are being treated with folic acid antagonists (methotrexate, sulphasalazine) or who have megaloblastic anaemia due to insufficient folic acid intake. It should be noted that folinic acid is preferred over higher doses of folic acid for women treated with folic acid antagonists.
The combination of fertifol with phenobarbital, phenytoin or primidol should be avoided. In addition, this drug contains lactose. Therefore, its use is not recommended in patients with galactose intolerance, total lactase deficiency or glucose/galactose malabsorption syndrome.
Note that this treatment is not effective for the prevention of neural tube defects beyond the 4th week of pregnancy.
