Phloroglucinol EG 80 mg, 20 orodispersible tablets (Generic Spasfon)

Phloroglucinol EG 80 mg is an over-the-counter medication belonging to the class of musculotropic antispasmodics. It acts directly against involuntary muscle contractions (spasms) to relieve painful symptoms associated with the digestive, gynecological, and urinary systems. 

When should Phloroglucinol EG 80 mg be used? 

This medication for stomach pain is recommended for adults and children over 2 years of age for: 

• Digestive disorders: relief of abdominal pain, intestinal spasms, bloating, and dysfunction of the digestive tract or bile ducts. 
• Gynecology: symptomatic treatment of painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea) and as an adjunct in the treatment of contractions during pregnancy (in combination with rest, under medical supervision).

Dosage and Administration 

The method of administration for this orodispersible medication depends on the patient’s age:

For adults:

• Dosage: 2 orodispersible tablets at the onset of symptoms. 
• In cases of severe spasms: the dose may be repeated after a minimum interval of 2 hours. 
• Maximum dose: Do not exceed 6 tablets in a 24-hour period. 
• Administration: Allow the tablets to dissolve under the tongue for rapid absorption or dissolve them in a glass of water. 

For children (over 2 years of age): 

• Dosage: 1 orodispersible tablet at the onset of a seizure. 
• In case of severe spasms: repeat the dose with at least a 2-hour interval. 
• Maximum dose: Do not exceed 2 tablets per 24 hours. 
• Directions for use: Always dissolve the tablet in a glass of water.  

Precautions and Contraindications 

Never take Phloroglucinol EG 80 mg in the following cases: 

• Allergy or hypersensitivity to phloroglucinol or any of the excipients. 
• Phenylketonuria, due to the presence ofaspartame. 
• Galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose malabsorption syndrome due to the presence of lactose. 

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: 

• Pregnancy: The use of phloroglucinol during pregnancy should be considered only if necessary, under medical supervision. 
• Breastfeeding: Use of this antispasmodic medication is not recommended for women who are breastfeeding. 

What is the difference between Spasfon and Phloroglucinol EG 80 mg?

Phloroglucinol EG 80 mg is the generic version of Spasfon. It contains the same amount of active ingredient (phloroglucinol) and offers equivalent efficacy in treating painful spasms, while being available at a lower cost.
