Description:


Macrogol 4000 Sandoz helps to increase the amount of water in the feces, which helps to solve problems associated with slowed bowel movements. Macrogol 4000 Sandoz is not absorbed into the bloodstream and is not altered in the body.
Macrogol 4000 Sandoz is a whitish powder that has an orange and grapefruit odour and taste and is intended to be reconstituted as a drinkable solution.

Indications:

Contraindications:
Never take Macrogol 4000 Sandoz 10 g:
- If you are allergic to the active substance
- If you have a disease such as severe bowel disease:
- Inflammation of the intestine (such as ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease, abnormal dilatation of the intestine)
- Perforation of the intestine or risk of perforation of the intestine
- Ileus or suspected obstruction of the intestine
- Abdominal pain of uncertain cause
- If you have any of the above conditions.

Ingredients:

Directions for use:
This medicine comes in the form of a powder that must be dissolved in a glass of water (at least 50 ml) and drink. Its effect generally appears in 24 to 48 hours.

Precautions for use:
- Cases of allergic reactions manifested by a rash on the skin and swelling of the face or throat (angioedema) have been reported in adults after taking drugs containing Macrogol (polyethylene glycol).
- Isolated cases of severe allergic reactions leading to fainting, collapse, or breathing difficulties and feelings of general malaise have been reported.
- If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking Macrogol 4000 Sandoz and contact your doctor immediately.

- Since this medicine may sometimes cause diarrhea, contact your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You have impaired kidney or liver function
- You are taking diuretics (medicines that increase urinary elimination) or you are elderly, as you may have decreased blood levels of sodium (salt) and potassium.
Use is not recommended in patients with fructose intolerance (a rare hereditary disease)

Other drugs and Macrogol 4000 Sandoz, powder for oral solution in sachet:
It is possible that the absorption of other drugs may be transiently reduced when using Macrogol 4000 Sandoz 10 g, especially drugs with a narrow therapeutic index or short half-life such as digoxin, anti-epileptics, coumarins and immunosuppressants, resulting in reduced effectiveness.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or may take any other medication.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding:
Macrogol 4000 Sandoz may be taken during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

- Macrogol 4000 Sandoz 10 g, powder for oral solution in sachet contains sorbitol (E420) and sulphur dioxide (E220).
- If your doctor has told you that you are intolerant to certain sugars (sorbitol), contact your doctor before taking this medicine. This medicine contains a small amount of a sugar called sorbitol which is converted in the body to fructose.
- This medicine contains sulphur dioxide and may cause allergic reactions and respiratory discomfort.
- Macrogol 4000 Sandoz may nevertheless be used if you are diabetic or if you have to follow a galactose-free diet

Adults and children over 8 years of age:
The usual recommended dose is 1 to 2 sachets per day, preferably taken as a single dose in the morning.
The daily dose may be adjusted to the effect obtained and may vary from 1 sachet every 2 days (especially in children) to a maximum of 2 sachets per day.
Dissolve the contents of the sachet in a glass of water (at least 50 ml) immediately before taking Macrogol 4000 Sandoz.
Macrogol 4000 Sandoz usually takes effect within 24 to 48 hours.
In children, the duration of treatment with Macrogol 4000 Sandoz should not exceed 3 months.
Improvement in your bowel function after taking Macrogol 4000 Sandoz can be maintained by adopting a healthy lifestyle and diet.

If you have taken more Macrogol 4000 Sandoz 10 g than you should have:
Taking too much Macrogol 4000 Sandoz may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain or vomiting. Diarrhea usually disappears when treatment is stopped or the dose is reduced.
If you experience severe diarrhea or vomiting, you should contact a doctor as soon as possible as you may need treatment to prevent salt (electrolyte) loss due to fluid loss.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, but they do not always occur in everyone.
Side effects that are usually mild and of short duration include:

In children:
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 patients):
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea which may result in pain in the anus
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 patients):
- Nausea or vomiting
- Abdominal bloating
Undetermined frequency (frequency cannot be estimated from available data):
- Allergic (hypersensitivity) reaction such as rash, hives, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness or collapse

Adult:
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 patients):
- Abdominal pain
- Abdominal bloating
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 patients):
- Vomiting
- Urge to have a bowel movement
- Faecal incontinence
Unknown (frequency cannot be estimated from available data)
- Low blood potassium which may cause muscle weakness, muscle twitching or abnormal heart rhythm
- Low blood sodium which may cause fatigue and confusion, muscle twitching, convulsions and coma.
- Dehydration caused by severe diarrhea, especially in the elderly.
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as redness of the skin, rash, hives, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, fainting or collapse.

- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the bottom of the pack. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
- Macrogol 4000 Sandoz does not require special storage conditions
- Do not dispose of any medicine in the sewer or in your household waste. Ask your pharmacist to dispose of any medication you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
