Description:

Caltrate is recommended in case of osteoporosis (bone decalcifications) in the elderly, following menopause, taking corticosteroids, in case of recovery of mobility in case of prolonged immobilization or in case of calcium deficiency following an increase in needs (growth, pregnancy, breastfeeding).

DOSAGE OF CALTRATE 600 MG

In adults: 2 to 3 tablets per day to be swallowed with a glass of water.

In children over 6 years: 1 to 2 tablets of Caltrate 600 mg per day.

In all cases, follow the medical prescription.

This calcium-based medicine is likely to interact with certain foods rich in oxalic acid such as spinach, rhubarb, sorrel, cocoa, tea, etc. and foods rich in phytic acid such as wholegrain cereals, pulses, oilseeds, chocolate, etc. It is therefore recommended that Caltrate be taken at a distance (at least 2 hours) from meals containing these foods.

PRECAUTIONS WITH CALTRATE

This medicine against osteoporosis should not be taken if you are allergic to any of its constituents, including the following excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose, magnesium stearate, crospovidone, polyvidone, sodium lauryl sulphate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, light liquid paraffin, talc.

Do not use Caltrate tablets if you have hypercalciuria, hypercalcemia, calcium lithiasis (kidney stone), prolonged immobilization with excess calcium.

Caltrate 600 mg should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment.

There are interactions between Caltrate and other drugs: you must respect a delay of at least 2 hours between doses if you are being treated with digitalis, thiazide diuretics, cyclins, iron salts, biphosphonates and estramustine.

If you need calcium, your doctor may prescribe Caltrate 600 mg during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Taking this medicine may cause adverse reactions such as digestive problems, itching, hives, and skin rash. These do not occur in all patients taking Caltrate.
