Aspirin protect 100 mg, gastro-resistant tablet is a medicine reserved for adults, and used to treat certain heart and vessel diseases that require blood thinning
In fact, it contains 100 mg of aspirin (or acetylsalicylic acid). By this dosage, it acts only on the platelets of the blood by decreasing the coagulation of this last. Thus, it promotes circulation, preventing the formation of blood clots
It belongs to a class of drugs called platelet aggregation inhibitors
Your doctor may decide to combine this treatment with others if he or she thinks it is necessary. You should not use this medicine when starting treatment without first consulting your doctor.
Aspirin protect 100 mg, gastro-resistant tablet is not recommended in emergency situations; it is reserved for maintenance treatment following the management of emergency situations
The active substance is acetylsalicylic acid, 100 mg per tablet
The other components of the formula are corn starch and cellulose powder
The composition of the film coating is as follows: copolymer of methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate 1 : 1, polysorbate 80, sodium lauryl sulfate, talc, triethyl citrate.
This medication should only be given on prescription
You should not start this treatment without the agreement of your doctor
Your doctor will tell you how many tablets to take each day and at what time of day
You must always take the dose recommended by your doctor
The generally recommended dose is 1 to 3 tablets per day, to be swallowed whole with a glass of water, preferably before meals
The tablets should not be crushed, chewed or crunched because of the gastro-resistant coating
In the elderly, the recommended dose is the same as for adults in the absence of severe kidney or liver disease such as severe renal or hepatic impairment
The elderly are more susceptible to adverse effects, therefore acetylsalicylic acid should be used with caution and treatment should be reviewed regularly
Acetylsalicylic acid should not be given to children and adolescents under 16 years of age, except on medical advice, when the benefit outweighs the risk
The duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor. You should not use this medication for a prolonged period of time without the approval of your doctor
Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. In case of overdose (including accidental overdose in very young children or the elderly) you should seek medical advice immediately, as overdose can be fatal
The first signs of an overdose are symptoms such as dizziness, headache, ringing in the ears, hearing problems (feeling of decreased hearing)
A large overdose can cause fever, hyperventilation, respiratory failure, serious metabolic disorders, shock (cardiovascular collapse) or coma
In children, an overdose of 100 mg of aspirin per kg of body weight or more in a single dose can result in death
Symptoms may include increased body temperature and excessive sweating which may lead to dehydration, convulsions, agitation, hallucinations and hypoglycaemia
Damage to the central nervous system may result in shock (cardiovascular collapse), coma and respiratory arrest
The patient should be transferred to a specialized hospital as a matter of urgency
If you miss a dose of Aspirin protect 100 mg gastro-resistant tablet, take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is time for your next dose. You should not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose
