HEALTH ADVICE/EDUCATION

DECONGESTANT FOR SYSTEMIC USE

This medicine is used in the treatment of a blocked nose and headache and/or fever during colds in adults and children over 15 years of age.

The common cold is a very common, mild, acute infection that affects the mucous membrane of the nose (the inner lining of the nose).

This mucous membrane secretes a liquid whose role is to permanently humidify the air breathed in and to fight against infectious agents. When this mucous membrane is irritated, it swells and increases its usual secretion of fluid, so that the nose "runs".

In order to limit the onset of symptoms, the following rules of hygiene should be observed as far as possible:

- wash your hands regularly, especially before meals or when preparing them.

- cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze;

- Blow your nose often with disposable tissues (to avoid recontamination) and dispose of them in a trash can immediately after use, then wash your hands;

- when using nasal solution, avoid using the same nasal tip for all family members

- avoid visiting a young woman who has given birth and her newborn child, an elderly person, or a person being treated with immunosuppressants (corticosteroids, drugs for blood diseases or cancer, etc.). In these cases, wearing a mask is recommended.

For your comfort:

- drink enough fluids;

- moisten the nasal mucous membrane with suitable washing solutions (physiological saline, thermal water or sea water sprays). Avoid using the same nose plug for the whole family.

- Avoid smoking or breathing in other people's smoke,

- sleep with your head elevated to improve airflow to blocked nostrils and get enough sleep;

- protect the skin of the upper lip and nostrils with a cream if necessary, as repeated nose blowing tends to irritate the skin

- avoid air conditioners which dehumidify the air and dry out the nasal mucous membranes; the ideal room temperature should be around 18-20°C;

- air the rooms regularly.

"WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF FEVER":

The normal body temperature varies from one individual to another and is between 36°5 and 37°5.

A rise of more than 0°8 is considered a fever.

In adults: if the problems caused by it are too troublesome, you can take this medicine which contains paracatemol, respecting the indicated dosage.

With this medicine, the fever should fall quickly. Nevertheless:

- if other signs appear (such as a rash),

- if the temperature persists for more than 3 days or gets worse,

- if the headache becomes severe, or if vomiting occurs,

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.

"WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF PAIN":

- If there is no improvement after 5 days of treatment,

- If the pain returns regularly,

- If it is accompanied by fever,

- If it wakes you up at night,

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.
