Sodium alginate / Sodium bicarbonate is a generic Gaviscon indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), characterized by heartburn and acid reflux.

Its formula has been developed to act rapidly on the stomach, forming a protective barrier over its contents. This barrier prevents acid from moving up the esophagus (the tube through which food passes).
