Where to apply light colors?
Think of the lighter shades as mini spotlights for the big stage that is your make-up. Just as our favorite highlighters are applied to the top of your features, lighter shades should be applied to the brow bone and inner corners of the eyes. These are the areas that will reflect maximum light, giving you brighter eyes and adding depth and interesting contrast to the darker shades that follow.
Where to apply medium colors
Medium shades are the pillars of your eyeshadow palette. They can be used to build and create any look, depending on the intensity you wish to give your make-up. A natural look relies on medium shades of the same color, or slightly darker than your skin tone, applied evenly across the eyelid.
Increase dimension by applying darker medium shades into the creases of your eyes with a smaller, tapered eye shadow brush. Do you have medium shimmer shades at your disposal? A small brushstroke on the center of the eyelid is all it takes to brighten up the make-up look. Forget light medium shades if you're going for a smoky eye, and replace them with darker medium shades to create a glamorous effect.
Where to apply dark colors
The darkest colors in your eyeshadow palette are your lines and contour colors. They require the most work, but the result is spectacular. Use the darkest colors to draw a V in the eye crease, to achieve the perfect cut crease that gives the illusion of giant eyes. Or give your trusty liquid eyeliner a break and add the most pigmented color along the upper lash line for a fun touch of pigment.
