Patchouli
Originally from Southeast Asia, Patchouli arrived in Europe at the end of the 18th century. Its insecticidal properties were well known to merchants. On his return from his Egyptian campaign, Bonaparte brought back a load of precious silks and woollens, which had been protected from moths by inserting Patchouli leaves.
