Indications Voltarene® 1% Emulgel

Pharmacotherapeutic class: M02AA15

This medication is an anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain reliever), in the form of a gel for application to the skin, only in the painful area.

This medicine is intended for adults (from 15 years old), for a short time, in :

- local treatment in case of benign trauma: sprain, contusion;

- local treatment of pain of muscular and tendino-ligamentary origin;

- symptomatic treatment of painful attacks of osteoarthritis, after at least one medical opinion.

Dosage and duration of treatment

For adults only (15 years and older).

Dosage depends on the indication.

The occurrence of adverse effects can be minimized by using the lowest possible dose for the shortest duration of treatment necessary to relieve symptoms.

Minor trauma: sprain, contusion

1 local application, 2 to 3 times a day, for a maximum duration of 4 days. If the pain persists beyond this period, a doctor should be consulted.

The dose administered at each application should not exceed 2.5 g of gel. This maximum dose corresponds to a 6 cm strip of gel (see scale diagram).

Pain of muscular and tendino-ligamentary origin

As an adjunct treatment: 1 local application, 3 to 4 times a day, for a maximum duration of 7 days. If the pain persists beyond this period, a doctor should be consulted.

The dose administered at each application should not exceed 2.5 g of gel. This maximum dose corresponds to a 6 cm ribbon (see scale diagram)

Painful flare-ups of osteoarthritis

Only after a first medical advice.

Symptomatic treatment: 1 local application, 3 to 4 times a day, for 7 days. The treatment can be continued, if necessary, for a maximum of 14 days. If pain persists beyond this period, a physician should be consulted.

The dose administered at each application should not exceed 4 g of gel. This corresponds to a ribbon of approximately 10 cm (see scale diagram)

Special Populations

Children under 15 years of age

This medicine should not be used in children under 15 years of age (see section "Never use VOLTARENE EMULGEL 1%, gel in pressurized bottle in the following cases").

Elderly subjects

This drug should be used with caution in the elderly who are more prone to adverse reactions.

Mode of administration: local.

Apply the gel by gentle and prolonged massage on the painful or inflammatory area.

Wash your hands well after each use (except in the case of a painful attack of osteoarthritis of the fingers, if you apply the product to yourself).

Diclofenac diethylamine eq. diclofenac sodium

Contraindications

Never use VOLTARENE EMULGEL 1%, gel in pressurized bottle in the following cases

- from the 25th week of amenorrhea (beginning of the 6th month of pregnancy).

- in case of allergy to this medicine or to a related medicine, notably other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin;

- in case of allergy to one of the excipients;

- on injured skin, whatever the lesion: oozing lesions, eczema, infected lesions, burns or wounds;

- in children under 15 years of age.

Warnings and precautions

Precautions for use

Be careful with VOLTARENE EMULGEL 1%, gel in pressurized bottle

- Do not apply to mucous membranes or the eyes. If a rash appears after application, treatment must be stopped immediately.

- Do not apply to a large area of skin or for a prolonged period without medical advice.

- This medicine contains propylene glycol and may cause skin irritation.

- Due to the presence of benzyl benzoate, this medication may cause irritation of the skin, eyes and mucous membranes.

The gel form is reserved for adults (from 15 years).

In adolescents aged 15 years and over, if symptoms worsen, it is recommended to seek the advice of your doctor.

The wearing of gloves by the physiotherapist, in case of intensive use, is recommended.
