Propolis is a dark-coloured waxy substance, produced by bees from the resins exuded by the buds and bark of certain trees (pine, fir, spruce, poplar, alder). The workers use them to protect and sanitize the hive. After the Greek doctors, the great Iranian scholar Avicenna advised propolis to treat arrow wounds.
