The Bitter Orange is one of the citrus fruits introduced into Europe by the Crusaders. Its pure white flowers spread a sweet and soothing fragrance. Its fruit, the bitter orange, is darker and smaller than the sweet orange and is not eaten fresh. The term "petitgrain" refers to the size of the fruit at the time of harvest and distillation.
