Dosage of Efferalgan 500 mg red fruits pain and fever 16 sticks of granules in sachet

This paracetamol-based medicine is indicated for people weighing more than 27 kg, which corresponds to an age of about 8 years

In children and adolescents, it is imperative to respect the dosages defined according to the weight of the patient and thus to choose an adapted presentation. The approximate ages according to weight are given only as an indication.

A higher dosage will not provide better pain relief, but may have serious consequences for the liver

For adults and adolescents weighing more than 50 kg, the usual daily dosage is 3000 mg of paracetamol per day, i.e. 6 sachets. However, in case of more intense pain, the maximum dosage can be increased up to 4000 mg per day, i.e. 8 sachets per day, on medical advice only.

A higher dose will not relieve your pain, but may have serious consequences on your liver.

Caution: To avoid the risk of overdose, check the absence of paracetamol in the composition of other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Respect the maximum recommended doses.

In case of serious liver or kidney disease, you should consult your doctor before taking this medication.

Precautions for use of Efferalgan 500 mg red fruits sticks

People who are allergic to paracetamol or to any of the components of this medicine should never take it

In case of overdose, stop the treatment and consult your doctor or emergency room immediately. An overdose can be fatal. The main signs of intoxication are nausea, vomiting, anorexia, pallor, malaise, sweating, abdominal pain and acute pancreatitis during the first 24 hours. If you miss a dose, do not take a double dose to make up for it.

Be aware that other medications contain paracetamol. If you are taking medication, check that it does not contain paracetamol, so as not to exceed the recommended daily dose

If the pain lasts more than 5 days or if the fever lasts more than 3 days, or if the medication is not effective enough, or if any other signs occur, do not continue the treatment without the advice of your doctor. A doctor should be consulted if there is an acute fever, signs of secondary infection or persistent complaints.

Frequent use of painkillers over a long period of time can cause or worsen headaches. If you have chronic headaches and have been taking pain medication for more than 3 months, at least every other day, do not increase the dose but consult a physician

It is necessary to inform your doctor or pharmacist before taking Efferalgan 500 mg red fruit granules in sticks if you are an adult weighing less than 50 kg, if you suffer from mild or moderate liver disease or kidney disease, in case of Gilbert syndrome or chronic alcoholism, if you are taking other drugs that affect the liver, if you have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, hemolytic anemia, or if you have nutritional problems, anorexia, cachexia or dehydration, or if you have acute viral hepatitis.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medications. Some medicines may alter the effect of Efferalgan 500 mg red fruit sticks. These are

probenecid (treatment of gout) because there is a risk of increasing the level of paracetamol in the blood)

phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine, primidone (treatment of epilepsy) and rifampicin (treatment of tuberculosis), because there is a risk of liver damage;

aZT (zidovudine, used to treat HIV infection) because it can cause neutropenia - medical advice is needed to take Efferalgan at the same time as AZT;

metoclopramide (treatment of nausea) and other drugs that speed up stomach emptying because they may increase absorption and speed up the onset of Efferalgan's effect;

drugs that slow down the emptying of the stomach because they may delay the absorption and effect of Efferalgan

cholestyramine (used to reduce high blood lipid levels) because it may reduce the absorption and delay the effect of Efferalgan; therefore, do not take cholestyramine within one hour of taking paracetamol

oral anticoagulants, particularly warfarin, because repeated use of paracetamol for more than 7 days increases the risk of bleeding - long-term use of paracetamol should only be taken on medical advice. Occasional use of paracetamol has no significant effect on the risk of bleeding

aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and salicylamide (used to treat pain and fever) and chloramphenicol (antibiotic agent). A reduction in the dose of these drugs, supervised by a physician, may be necessary;

flucloxacillin, an antibiotic, as there is a risk of blood and metabolic abnormalities reported with increased plasma acidity when flucloxacillin and paracetamol are used concomitantly, especially in certain at-risk patient groups (severe renal impairment, sepsis, or malnutrition), especially when maximum daily doses of paracetamol are used High anion gap metabolic acidosis is a serious condition requiring urgent treatment.

Tell your doctor that you are taking this medication if he or she has ordered a blood uric acid or blood sugar test

Alcohol should not be taken during treatment

In a child treated with paracetamol, it is not justified to associate another antipyretic drug, except in case of inefficiency. Medical advice is recommended if the fever persists

The taste of red fruits of this medicine is likely to please the children. It should therefore be kept out of sight and reach of children.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medication if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

If needed, Efferalgan 500 mg berry sticks can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The lowest possible dose should be used to relieve pain and/or fever and the medication should be taken for the shortest possible time.

Consult your doctor if pain and/or fever does not subside or if you need to take the medication more frequently
