Description

This medication is indicated for the treatment of outbreaks of localized herpes labialis (also called "cold sores"), in adults and children over 6 years of age.

    DO NOT LEAVE THIS MEDICATION IN THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

    Precautions
    This medicine contains propylene glycol and may cause skin irritation.
    If your cold sore does not heal after 5 days of treatment or worsens:
    STOP THE TREATMENT AND CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.
    - In case of an outbreak of herpes labialis, a few hygiene precautions are necessary to protect those around you from the risk of transmitting the virus.
    In parallel with your treatment, to avoid transmission of the virus, you should observe the following hygiene rules:
    - Avoid close contact, a kiss for example, with those around you,
    - NEVER EMBRACE AN INFANT,
    - Take the advice of your pharmacist or doctor if you are in doubt about the nature of your lesion,
    - Wash your hands carefully if you come into contact with the lesion,
    - During treatment, in order not to spread the lesions, do not rub your eyes or eyelids with your hands and if you wear contact lenses, never moisten them with your saliva,
    - Avoid touching or scratching the lesions.
    - In case of another location of your herpes attack, never use this cream, TAKE THE ADVICE OF YOUR DOCTOR.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

  • Pregnancy
    The use of aciclovir by cutaneous way is possible in the pregnant woman in the respect of the indications.
    If you discover that you are pregnant during the treatment, warn your doctor because only he will be able to judge of the need to continue it.

    Breast-feeding
    If the maternal pathology allows it, breast-feeding is possible with this medicine.
    Generally, it is advisable, during the pregnancy and breast-feeding, always to ask the opinion of your doctor or your pharmacist before taking a medicine.

Composition:

Notable excipients: Propylene glycol,
Active ingredients:
Aciclovir . 5.00 g
per 100 g of cream.

Other ingredients: Propylene glycol, poloxamer 407, sodium lauryl sulphate, cetostearyl alcohol, petroleum jelly, dimethicone 20, liquid paraffin, purified water, glycerol monostearate, macrogol stearate 100.

Directions for use:

  • Dosage
    Apply the cream to the herpetic lesions and around the lesions, 5 times a day, with each application at least 3 to 4 hours apart and no night-time applications.

    Method and route of administration
    Dermal route.
    Start applications at the first sign of itching or burning, even before the blisters appear, as treatment is more effective if started at the first sign of a cold sore outbreak.
    Wash your hands thoroughly before and after each application of the cream to your cold sore to avoid spreading the infection.
    Apply the cream with your finger, extending well beyond the lesion.
    Close the tube or pump properly after use.
    How to use the pump:
    It is recommended that the pump be pressed slowly and completely at least 3 to 4 times, so that the pumping device is fully primed from the first time it is used and the product is delivered in the best possible way.
    Frequency of administration
    Applications should be spread throughout the day, with an interval of at least 3 to 4 hours between two applications.
    For example, apply the cream in the morning after breakfast, at noon after lunch, after a snack, in the evening after dinner, in the evening before bedtime.
    Duration of treatment
    The duration of treatment should not exceed 5 days, without medical advice.

Storage conditions:

  • Store at a temperature below 25°C. Do not refrigerate.

Contraindications:

  • Never use ACTIVIR 5 PER CENT, cream in the following cases:
    - in children under 6 years of age,
    - in intraoral, intravaginal and especially ocular application,
    - history of hypersensitivity to aciclovir or any of the excipients,
    IF IN DOUBT, YOU SHOULD SEEK THE ADVICE OF YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST.

Possible interactions:

  • If you are taking or have recently taken any other medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your doctor or pharmacist

Unwanted effects:

Like all medicines, ACTIVIR 5 PER CENT cream may have side effects, although not everyone is susceptible.
Due to the nature of the side effects observed, it is not possible to determine which effects are related to the administration of the drug and which are related to the disease.
Uncommon side effects (affecting 1 to 10 users out of 1000): Transient tingling or burning sensations, skin dryness, pruritus.
Rare adverse reactions (affecting 1 to 10 in 10,000 users): Erythema, contact eczema.
Cases of urticaria and angioedema (sudden swelling of the face and neck of allergic origin) have been reported.
If you notice any adverse reactions not mentioned in this leaflet, or if any of the adverse reactions become serious, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.
