DIOSMINE SANDOZ CONSEIL: how does it work?
Pharmacotherapeutic class: VASCULOPROTECTOR / MEDICINE ACTING ON THE CAPILLAIRES.

Veinotonic and vasculoprotector leading to vasoconstriction, an increase in the resistance of the vessels and a decrease in their permeability.

Various studies, both in animals and in humans, have been conducted to demonstrate these properties:

In animals

Venotonic properties

- Increase in venous pressure in anaesthetised dogs, observed by I.V. route.

Vasculoprotectiveproperties

- Action on capillary permeability, anti-oedematous and anti-inflammatory action in rats,

- Action on the deformability of red blood cells measured by the erythrocyte filtration time,

- Increased capillary resistance in rats and guinea pigs deficient in vitamin P factor,

- Decreased bleeding time in vitamin P-deficient guinea pigs,

- Decreased capillary permeability induced by chloroform, histamine or hyaluronidase.

In humans

Venotonic properties demonstrated in clinical pharmacology

- Increases the vasoconstrictor action of adrenaline, noradrenaline and serotonin on the superficial veins of the hand or on an isolated saphenous vein,

- Increase in venous tone, as evidenced by measurement of venous capacitance using strain gauge plethysmography; decrease in the volume of venous stasis,

- The venoconstrictive effect is dose-related,

- Lowering of mean venous pressure in both the superficial and deep systems, demonstrated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled Doppler trial,

- Increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in postoperative orthostatic hypotension,

- Activity in the aftermath of saphenectomy.

Vasculoprotectiveproperties

- Increase in capillary resistance, dose-dependent effect

DIOSMINE SANDOZ CONSEIL: contraindications

This medicine is contraindicated in the event of allergy to the active substance or to one of the excipients.

This medicine is generally not recommended during breast-feeding

DIOSMINE SANDOZ CONSEIL: precautions for use

Hemorrhoidal crisis:

The administration of this product does not dispense with the specific treatment of other anal diseases.

The treatment must be of short duration.

If the symptoms do not cease quickly, a proctological examination must be carried out and the treatment must be re-examined.

Related to excipients:

This drug contains lactose. Its use is not recommended in patients with galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose or galactose malabsorption syndrome (rare hereditary diseases).

This medicine contains an azoic colouring agent (cochineal red A) and may cause allergic reactions.

Pregnancy

Studies in animals have not shown any teratogenic effect. In the absence of teratogenic effect in animals, a malformative effect in humans is not expected. Indeed, to date, substances responsible for malformations in humans have been shown to be teratogenic in animals in well-conducted studies in two species.

In clinical trials, no particular malformative or fetotoxic effect has been observed to date. However, the follow-up of pregnancies exposed to diosmin is insufficient to exclude any risk.

Therefore, the use of this drug should be considered during pregnancy only if necessary.

Breast-feeding

In the absence of data on the passage of diosmin into breast milk, treatment is not recommended during the period of lactation.
