Freestyle Libre makes monitoring easy and eliminates the need for pricking. It works with a sensor, the diameter of a two-euro coin, which is attached to the arm. It measures the level of glucose in the fluid between the blood capillaries and the cells every minute using a flexible needle. Once installed, this sensor works for up to two weeks. It can be kept on during sports, and because it is waterproof, it can be worn in the shower or during water activities. Thus, it offers great freedom to its wearer.
To collect blood glucose, simply scan the sensor with the Freestyle Libre reader (sold separately). It then displays the data that will be used to adjust the insulin dosages
After 14 days, the sensor needs to be renewed.

- Apply the sensor:
- The FreeStyle Libre sensor is applied to the back of the upper arm by a disposable device called an applicator.

- Each pass of the meter over the sensor provides the current glucose level, the glucose level history for the past 8 hours, and a trend arrow indicating whether the glucose level is rising, falling, or slowly changing.
