Description:

The monitoring of his glucose level is fundamental for the diabetic. It allows the diabetic to determine the right dose of insulin to use. Indeed, blood sugar levels will vary during the day, depending on various factors, for example the composition of meals or physical activity.

Monitoring blood sugar levels is a relatively tedious process that involves pricking a fingertip several times a day and then testing the blood with an appropriate meter to determine the level of sugar in the blood

Freestyle Libre makes monitoring easy and eliminates the need for pricking. It works with a sensor, the diameter of a two-euro coin, which is attached to the arm. It measures the level of glucose in the fluid between the blood capillaries and the cells every minute using a flexible needle. Once installed, this sensor works for up to two weeks. It can be kept on during sports, and because it is waterproof, it can be worn in the shower or during water activities. Thus, it offers great freedom to its wearer.

To collect blood glucose, simply scan the sensor with the Freestyle Libre reader (sold separately). It then displays the data that will be used to adjust the insulin dosages

After 14 days, the sensor needs to be renewed.

• Apply the sensor:
  • The FreeStyle Libre sensor is applied to the back of the upper arm by a disposable device called an applicator.
  • Clean the area with an alcohol wipe
  • When applying the sensor, a thin sterile needle (5mm) is inserted just under the skin, and held in place by a small adhesive pad.
  • the sensor can be used to check the glucose level after 60 minutes
• Scan the sensor :
  • To obtain the glucose level, you simply scan the sensor: quickly move the meter over the sensor to within 4 cm. The FreeStyle Libre system also has software to generate reports to help analyze glucose data.
• Get the result:
  • Each pass of the meter over the sensor provides the current glucose level, the glucose level history for the past 8 hours, and a trend arrow indicating whether the glucose level is rising, falling, or slowly changing.

• The FreeStyle Libre Glucose Self-Monitoring System is a device for continuous measurement of interstitial fluid glucose levels in people over the age of 4 with diabetes mellitus.
• In children (4 to 17 years) the indication is limited to those supervised by an adult in charge of their treatment. Its use requires education with a health professional.
