Description Biocanina Permetrix 200 mg/40 mg spot-on solution for dogs up to 4 Kg

Indications

Prevention and treatment of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis).

The fleas present on the dog are killed within a day of treatment. A single treatment prevents re-infestation by fleas for 4 weeks. The medication can be integrated into a therapeutic program for Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD) when previously diagnosed by a veterinarian.

The product has an acaricidal efficacy on ticks persisting for 4 weeks (Rhipicephalus sanguineus and Ixodes ricinus) and 3 weeks (Dermacentor reticulatus) and a repulsive efficacy on Ixodes ricinus persisting for 3 weeks.

Ticks already present on the dog at the time of treatment may not be killed during the two days following treatment and may remain attached and visible. Therefore, it is recommended to remove the ticks present at the time of application of the treatment, in order to avoid their attachment and the taking of a blood meal.

A single treatment provides repellent activity (anti-gorging) against the sandfly Phlebotomus perniciosus for three weeks and against the mosquito Aedes aegypti from 7 days to 14 days after treatment.

Reduction of the risk of infection with Leishmania infantum transmitted by sandflies (Phlebotomus perniciosus) up to 3 weeks. The effect is indirect due to the activity of the product on the vector.

Composition

A pipette of 2.5 mL contains :

Active substance(s)

Permethrin (40/60).......................................... 500.0 mg

Imidacloprid................................................... 100 mg

Excipient(s)

Butylhydroxytoluene (E321)................................ 1 mg

Dosage and route of administration

External use only (spot-on use). Apply only to uninjured skin.

The minimum recommended dosage is : 10 mg imidacloprid per kg body weight and 50 mg permethrin per kg body weight.

Apply to the skin according to the animal's body weight as follows:

Dogs

(weight in kg)

Dosage Pipette volume (mL) Imidacloprid (mg/kg body weight) Permethrin (mg/kg body weight)
≤ 4kg 200 mg/40 mg spot-on solution for dogs up to 4 kg 0.4 mL 10 (minimum) 50 (minimum)
> 4 kg ≤ 10 kg 500 mg/100 mg spot-on solution for dogs 4-10 kg 1.0 mL 10 - 25 50 - 125
> 10 kg ≤ 25 kg 1250 mg/250 mg spot-on solution for dogs 10 - 25 kg 2.5 mL 10 - 25 50 - 125
> 25 kg ≤ 40 kg 2000 mg/400 mg spot-on solution for dogs over 25 kg 4.0 mL 10 - 16 50 - 80

For dogs over 40 kg, use the appropriate pipette combination.

To ensure correct dosing, the weight of the animal should be determined as accurately as possible.

To reduce re-infestation by emergence of new fleas, it is recommended to treat all dogs in the household. Other pets living in the same household should also be treated with an appropriate product.

In order to reduce the parasite pressure in the environment, it is recommended to use an appropriate environmental treatment against adult fleas and their developmental stages.

Depending on the ectoparasitic pressure, it may be necessary to repeat the treatment. The interval between 2 treatments should be 4 weeks. However, in case of intense and/or prolonged exposure to water, the duration of effectiveness may be reduced. In this case, a minimum interval of one week must be respected between two applications.

To protect a dog during the entire sandfly season, the treatment must be applied continuously throughout this period.

Transient cosmetic changes may be observed at the application sites (i.e. skin flaking, white deposits and stuck-on hair).

Method of administration

Remove a pipette from the package. Hold the pipette applicator in an upright position. Press the narrow end of the pipette to ensure that all contents are in the main body of the pipette, rotate and remove the cap. Place the cap, upside down, on the pipette. Press and twist the cap to puncture the pipette, then remove the cap from the pipette.

For dogs 10 kg body weight or less:

With the dog in a standing position, spread the hair between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and press firmly several times to empty the contents directly onto the skin.

For dogs over 10 kg body weight:

With the dog in an upright position, apply the entire contents of the pipette evenly at four points on the animal's back, from the shoulders to the base of the tail. At each point of application, spread the hair until the animal's skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin, and gently squeeze to deposit some of the solution on the skin. Do not apply too much solution at any one point, as it may run down the sides of the dog.

Contraindications

In the absence of available data, do not use in puppies under 7 weeks of age or weighing less than 4 kg.

Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to any of the excipients.

Do not use in cats (see section "Special precautions for use").

Specific warnings for each target species

The attachment of a tick or the bite of mosquitoes or sandflies remains possible. Therefore, transmission of infectious diseases by these parasites cannot be completely excluded under unfavorable conditions.

Since the product has repellent (anti-gorging) activity against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes after 7 days after treatment, it is preferable to apply the product one week before animals are likely to be exposed to these mosquitoes.

The product remains effective against fleas if the animal is wet. After weekly immersion in water for one minute, the duration of insecticidal efficacy against fleas was not reduced. However, intense and prolonged exposure to water should be avoided. In case of repeated or prolonged exposure to water, the duration of efficacy may be reduced. In these cases, do not repeat the treatment more than once a week. If a dog requires shampooing, it should be done prior to application of the product or at least 2 weeks after application, to maximize the effectiveness of the product.

The efficacy of this product against ticks and the effectiveness of the repellent activity of this product after bathing or shampooing has not been studied.

Immediate protection against sandfly bites is not documented. Dogs treated to reduce the risk of infection with Leishmania infantum transmitted by P. perniciosus sandflies should be kept in a protected environment for the first 24 hours after the initial application of treatment.
